To qualify for free delivery, your order total should meet the following criteria:

UK mainland customers enjoy free delivery on orders over £50

UK remote* areas customers qualify for free delivery on orders over £100

Republic of Ireland customers enjoy free delivery on orders over €50

Orders for up to 5 A5 real paint sample sheets are posted at no cost across all regions, including those excluded from paint deliveries.

All paint orders offer standard delivery of 3-5 working days within the UK and 5-7 days working days within the Republic of Ireland.  We aim to deliver in advance of these indicated times, but must accommodate the time an order is placed and weekday only delivery.

Standard delivery rates are:
UK mainland £4.99.  Free with orders over £50.
UK remote* areas £9.99.  Free with orders over £100.
Republic of Ireland €5.99.  Free with orders over €50.

A5 sample sheet orders are posted at no cost via Royal Mail in the UK and An Post in the republic of Ireland.  Delivery may take up to 3 working days.

At present, we cannot, unfortunately, deliver to the Isle of Man, Isles of Scilly, Northern Ireland Channel Islands and certain postcode areas in the Scottish Highlands.

If you've changed your mind about your purchase, please return it within 28 days in its original condition and with proof of purchase to your nearest Crown Decorating Centres branch*.  On receipt we'll issue a refund.

By original condition, the item should be unused and undamaged. This doesn't affect your statutory rights.

Our checkout allows payment with Debit / Credit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal and PayPal Pay Later (UK only).

Most paints will require two coats, so please alow for that in your calculation.

Matt paints hide lumps and bumps.

Higher sheens reflect more light and can brighten a room, matt finishes absorb it and are more atmospheric. 

Many modern matt paints are formulated to be super tough and multi surface so if you prefer a low sheen in a room which might get quite a lot of traffic these are the paints for you.  High traffic areas, like hallways or kids rooms, are more susceptible to scuffs and stains, so use tough, washable paints here.

Begin your search with existing accessories in mind, you won’t always be changing furniture, carpet or upholstery so use colours within existing items as a starting point.

Use colour cards to shortlist your favourites, then order a paint sample.  Colours do change in different lighting conditions, so do try the real paint colour in your room and in different positions within it, you can do this easily with a Crown colour sample.  Visit our Samples page for more.

When painting a room, always start from the top down. Ceiling first, then followed by walls and finally doors and skirting.

Use a quality masking tape to for straight edges and areas you don’t want to paint. You can then paint quickly and with more freedom, avoiding the need to fiddle about with edging.

Dust sheets are inexpensive and really are a worthwhile investment.

Rollers let you paint larger areas in less time, making the job less of a chore. Disposable kits are readily available; but, better quality trays and sleeves can all be reused, think of this as an investment that will save money.

For general use with wall paints, a medium pile roller carries the best load for application.  For an ultra-smooth finish, on a perfectly flat surface use a short pile roller.  Long pile roller are for rough surfaces, like masonry.  You might need roller extensions for stairwells or extended roller arms for getting down the back of radiators.

Use large brushes where the roller won’t go, then smaller brushes for painting edges and corners neatly.  Synthetic bristle brushes are best with water based paints as the bristle will not expand when wet.  Natural bristle brushes are recommended for oil based paints where a smoother finish is necessary.
