Start with a main colour that speaks to you. ​

Look to your favorite items, like cushions, art, or clothes for colours to inspire your scheme.​

Use our A5 real paint swatch cards, Matchpots or tester pots to see how colors look at different times of day.

Create a moodboard.  Pull it all together - paints, flooring, and accessories.  This visual snapshot will help you refine your scheme before you commit.

Some colour combinations are timeless, like black and white, soft grey and blush pink, chocolate and beige.  Bold combinations of navy with mustard or green with pink also work perfectly.

If you plan a more unique look, then first select a base, or anchor, colour.

After selecting your base colour, build the rest of your colour palette using complementary and analogous colours. Complementary colours, which are opposite of each other on the colour wheel, provide high contrast and enhance each other's brightness, such as blue and orange. Analogous colors, found next to each other on the colour wheel, create a harmonious and pleasing visual effect, such as blue, teal, and green.

To create a good colour flow within your home, try to incorporate your base colour throughout.

For every colour there is an A5 real paint sample.  An A5 sheet coated with real paint, this is an easy way to collate a colour palette, move samples from room to room, or use as a swatch to match furniture or accessories.  You can order up to five of these samples in one order, with free delivery.

For our Walls & Ceilings and Easyclean® ranges, we also provide 40ml matchpots.  A tube of your selected paint colour with a handy built in applicator means you can use your sample with minimum effort.

A larger 125ml tester is available for our ELLE Decoration and CRAFTED™ by Crown collections.  These statement collections are popular for colour drenching looks, so the larger pot will let you test wider areas of walls and woodwork.  They're also great for smaller projects and for touching up.
